How to fit your Palio LooseLay floor

Our Palio LooseLay flooring holds tight to the floor thanks to a combination of weight and a friction grip backing, making it easy to install and allowing individual planks or tiles to be uplifted if needed.

Tools you will need:

  • Pencil
  • Utility Knife
  • Ruler / straight edge
  • Tape measure

For all thresholds, areas where tight fitting is not possible, such as kitchen cabinets/kickboards etc, rooms larger than 16m2 or for rooms with a wall longer than 4m2 you will need:

  • Tackifier
  • Paint tray
  • Paint roller

How to install your Palio LooseLay floor

1. Prepare your floor to gain a solid, sound and smooth surface.

2. Calculate how many packs of flooring you will need by multiplying the length by the width of your room to find the square meterage.

3. Acclimatise your flooring at room temperature for 48 hours.

4. Plan your laying pattern to ensure symmetry and eliminate awkward perimeter cuts. Tip: mix up the planks or tiles for a more natural look.

5. Apply a 10 cm strip of our tackifier using a paint roller to all thresholds and areas where tight fitting is not possible. For rooms larger than 16m2 or with any wall longer than 4m2 apply a grid of tackifier. Allow 20 minutes for the tackifier to turn clear before laying your floor.

6. Cut planks or tiles with a score and snap technique. Starting in the centre of the room, lay each plank tightly against each other. To complete the row, place your cut end tight against the wall and the factory cut end against the laid plank or tile.

7. As you lay each row, remember to stagger the joints to avoid the risk of gaps.

8. To fit around radiator pipes, measure and mark the centre of the pipe. Cut to this point then use a spade bit to drill a hole.

9. To fit around doorways and other obstacles, create a paper template and cut the plank or tile to size using your knife.

10. Complete your floor with our paintable skirting boards.
